Soca vs Dancehall Jouvert Morning Edition in Rotterdam on 4 March 2016

Looking back at Soca vs Dancehall’s Jouvert Morning Edition in 2015 it looked like it couldn’t get any better, but in 2016 even more vybz, more wining and more wukking up. It got bigger and better; and Dancehall Explorer was there to report:

Jouvert Morning at Soca vs Dancehall

When you are from the Caribbean and move to a country like the Netherlands there is nothing as good as going to a party where you can find your own culture celebrated and fete with your island people. Jouvert Morning is, by far, an excellent place to do that. In case you missed it last year, we explained a bit about the concept of Jouvert Morning :

Soca vs Dancehall Jouvert Morning 2016 flyer“The Jouvert Morning edition is a bacchanal characterized by patrons coming out in their pyjamas and getting on bad. For those of you not familiar with “jouvert morning” it’s a term that comes from the French jour ouvert which translates to the break of dawn. Many Caribbean islands celebrate this break of dawn during Carnival season by hitting the streets very early in the morning wearing their PJ’s, bathrobes or any other crazy sexy outfit they feel comfortable in.”

Maassilo in Rotterdam

Last year Soca vs Dancehall promised to look for a bigger venue to accommodate all the soca and dancehall lovers. Well, they most definitely kept their word as this year’s venue, Maassilo, was spacious and offered enough room for a proper tornado, palancing and all the ferocious wukking up. At the entrance there were plenty of lockers available to store wintercoats and valuables. Since most patrons were dressed in skimpy outfits ranging from batty riders to pyjamas to bath robes and February is well cold this was highly appreciated. While 2015 was already big with 700+ people in the venue, 2016 was significantly larger with 1000+ people attending Soca vs Dancehall’s Jouvert Morning. We hope next year’s Jouvert Morning will be at Maassilo again…or…can it get even bigger?

 Party Shot / Party Flop

Pros: plenty of room for dancing, free face painting, the best party crowd
Cons: Asa Bantan’s performance was quite late
